2 Year Certified Equine Sport Therapy Program

We offer a two-year, part time certificate program, designed for those wishing to acquire the skill and knowledge necessary for a career as an “Equine Sport Therapist”.

Our course includes instruction in the following:

The Equine Sport Therapy Program consists of four components:

1. Classroom and Hands-On Instruction Students attend classes once a month (Thursday and Friday 9am – 4pm) and receive classroom and hands-on instruction.

2. Practical Homework

Students are required to complete a minimum of 20 assessments and case studies between classes

3. Course Study

Students are responsible to study the texts and material supplied by the College.

4. Research Projects

There are 3 research projects that must be completed and handed in during the course of study.

Students must be prepared to spend, on average, two to three hours per day to complete the practical homework, course study and research components. Total hours for the course will be 2000.

Examination Process:

Students receive a quiz at the beginning of each class and are required to submit their case studies of animals worked on. In September of the second term, students write a midterm paper covering all the material presented in the first term.

A final mark of 70%, or greater, is required to pass and is calculated in the following manner:

  • Midterm exam and quizzes 15% of final mark
  • Practical homework (case studies) 15% of final mark
  • Research projects 10% of final mark
  • Professionalism and final exam: practical, anatomy, physiology, pathology, and general make up 60% of final mark

 

Class Schedule:

Instruction is presented in two sets of modules which run from September until June the first year and from September until June the second year.

Classroom and hands-on instruction consists of (20) two-day classes which are held at our College in either the Barrhead, Alberta Campus location or the Vanscoy, Saskatchewan Campus location (10 the first year and 10 the second year).

Classes are held of Thursday and Friday 9am to 4pm from September to June. You are notified of the dates upon acceptance to the program. We accept approximately 16 students at each campus to ensure personal time.

Tuition & Fees for NTTI Alberta & Saskatchewan Campus locations:

Tuition and textbook fees for first year is $8350.00. The second year tuition is $3760.00.

Textbooks and College manuals are handed out on your first day of class.

Online Option: all course material will be uploaded to the student LMS. Students scan work through the modular course material at their own pace.

B.C. College of Equine Therapy

We are excited to announce a partnership between the British Columbia College of Equine Therapy (BCCET) and Natural Touch Therapy Institute (NTTI) to expand the two year Equine Sport Therapy program into Alberta and Saskatchewan. This will fill the demand for the knowledge in the equine therapy world. It also enables the program to be accessed by students residing in mid and eastern provinces as well as international applicants.

NTTI will be working closely with the BCCET and its founder, Dave Collins. Both Brenda and Janelle are graduates of the BCCET Equine Sport Therapy program and have put a lot of effort into furthering our education (see Instructors page).

The BCCET program will be offered at both NTTI locations near Barrhead, AB. and Vanscoy, Sk. We are accepting students for fall classes at both locations.

2 Year Certified Equine Manual Osteopathic Therapy Program

Equine Manual Osteopathic Therapist program will be a 2 year certification course with the first intake September 2020 at the Barrhead, Alberta Campus.

Osteopathy was founded on a thorough understanding of the relationship between structure and function; it is based entirely on an exceptional knowledge of anatomy and physiology rather than on the memorization of techniques.

We will be accepting 16 students.  Successful applicants must be a certified equine sport therapist, certified equine remedial therapist, certified equine massage therapist, certified equine body worker, registered massage therapist (RMT), phyisotherapist, acupuncturist, etc.

Subjects include:

  • OsteoArticulations Horse & Rider
  • Advanced Myofascial Release Horse & Rider
  • Involuntary Mechanisms Horse & Rider
  • Visceral Manipulations Horse & Rider
  • Acupressure Horse & Rider

 

Tuition Cost: $13,000.00 for both years, includes course material (textbooks) ($7000 first year, $6000 second year) 

Online Accredited Programs

Natural Touch Therapy Institute has dedicated a great deal of time and effort to provide an online therapy-based program that will ensure our graduates have the feel, timing and knowledge to be successful Canine or Equine Therapists in the industry. The challenge of online courses in a therapy-based education are many.

Students MUST be self-motivated to keep on task with course material, this includes the completion of assignments and case studies for marking. Students MUST be willing to dedicate 10 hours per week for homework, studying and practicing their techniques on dogs or horses. Each Accredited Program is one semester, six months, 550 hours in length.

Upon successful completion of course requirements, graduates will receive certification in the modality of their study.

For Therapists within NHPC, each Accredited Program is eligible for 70 CEU credits.

Minimum age requirement of Student Equine Therapists is 17 years of age. If under the age of 18 years, parental consent must accompany the Student Application.

Online Accredited Equine Massage Therapist Program

The Accredited Massage Therapist Program is designed to provide a well-rounded education based on knowledge of equine anatomy and proper massage techniques.

Following the completion of this 550 hour certification program, graduates will have achieved the competency to enhance recovery, relieve stress and improve performance in the equine athlete. Completion of 100 case studies throughout the duration of the program, in addition to afternoon class session spent working on horses, helps to ensure students have achieved the feel that defines a highly successful Equine Massage Therapist.

Natural Touch Therapy Institute is pleased to offer the Accredited Equine Massage Therapist program via online education with classes starting monthly.

This format will allow greater access to students interested in becoming an Accredited Equine Massage Therapist with a decreased time commitment. Students will be able to log in to their Student Portal to receive their class material, assignments, grades and more. Students can expect to complete case studies, assignments and written exams throughout the course duration.

Following completion of this six month, 550 hour certification program, graduates will have the proficiency to address the finer and more subtle elements of balancing the body for both horse and rider. Completion of 100 case studies throughout the duration of the program, in addition to afternoon class sessions spent working on horses, helps to ensure students have the practical skills required of successful Equine Alternative Therapists.
